To finish Homesick, take the Longing Wife Letter near the Last Sunlight Lantern in the Caverns, find the Death Notice on a boat in the optional underground quay, then return to the family's memory near the first letter. William reads the notice aloud and the quest completes, awarding Bottomless Well Amber.
The important distinction is between the two letters: finding the wife's letter starts the task, while the Death Notice supplies the answer. Defeating the nearby Grenadier without collecting the notice does not finish it.
Pick up the wife's letter at Last Sunlight
Homesick begins in Chapter 4, when you first enter the Caverns. Near the first Lantern, take the side tunnel with the campfire and the blue memory of the waiting family. The Longing Wife Letter is beside or behind the memory, on the nearby crate.

Pick up this first letter to start Homesick.
Pick up the letter before continuing. Your objective is to discover why the father never reached his family. There is no dialogue decision to make at this point, and the quest does not require taking a side in their story.
Find the safe descent to the underground boats
- Continue into the large cavern with several enemies. Clear enough space to inspect the ground safely.
- Look for the opening with a visible tunnel and a torch near its edge. Other dark holes are not interchangeable with this route.
- Drop into the tunnel leading to the underground quay. Follow the passage until you reach the boats and the enemies around the water.
- Work toward the Risen Grenadier and the boat beyond his position. The Death Notice is on that boat.

Use the opening with a visible tunnel rather than the other holes.
You can fight the Grenadier normally. An alternative described by the guides is to shoot the glowing orange formation above him when he is underneath it, dropping the overhead hazard onto him. This is an optional way to make the encounter easier, not a condition for the quest.
The area also has a grapple point. You do not have to take a particular combat approach: Polygon describes clearing enemies from the right ledge, while other routes use the grapple. Prioritize a safe view of the enemies and the boat holding the letter.
Collect the Death Notice and return
Search the boat behind or just beyond the Grenadier's patrol. Pick up the Death Notice rather than leaving after the fight or a nearby chest.

Collect the notice from the boat, then return to the family memory.
The notice explains the father's absence. Once you have it, retrace your route to the campfire and family memory near Last Sunlight. Approach the original clue location and let William finish reading the letter aloud. The quest concludes there; the notice is not handed in at a different Lantern or later settlement.
The reward is Bottomless Well Amber. IGN describes its effect as slowly regenerating Nephtoglobin. Polygon also records 2,000 Catalysts for completing the quest. A nearby Lucky Shot Amber chest is a separate optional pickup at the quay, rather than the Homesick completion reward.
If Homesick has not completed
- The journal only mentions finding the father: check that you collected the Death Notice from the boat. The first letter alone is insufficient.
- You are searching the main mine route: return to the optional quay reached through the tunnel opening in the large early cavern.
- You have the notice but the quest is still active: revisit the family's original memory and allow William's reading to finish.
