Search Valley of Ashes by Lantern to find Amber chests, flask upgrades and quest items. Start with Guidepost and The Climb, continue through Demolished Path, Military Camp and Quarry, and leave the poison-hidden camp near The Other Side until you obtain Shield.
Guidepost and the broken bridge
| Pickup | Where to search |
|---|---|
| Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrade | Before the pole swing beyond the tipped wagon, break the boxes on the side path and search the chest behind the enemy. |
| Indestructible Shell | After the first Grenadier, check the chest on the left before entering the next metal carriage. |
| An Unheard Farewell | Speak to the officer calling from the carriage in the open area. |
| Pistol | Follow the bridge platforming route and enter the carriage on the left. |
The Pistol is obtained along progression. The upgrade chest requires taking the short dead-end path before leaving the platform, making it easy to pass while concentrating on traversal.
The Climb and Demolished Path
An Empty Ferrofluid Flask is in the chest to the left of The Climb Lantern after the bridge section. The lift and caves also hold the missing scouts’ investigation for An Unheard Farewell. Unlock the top of the lift, then use its moving platform to reach the middle ledge and burn the barrier into the side cave. Defeat the soldier and read the orders before returning to the officer.
Completing that quest awards Sleight of Hand. Near the ladder shortcut back toward Demolished Path, follow the route down the plague vines and take the side path behind the group of enemies. Defeat the Eternal Guardsman there and open the chest behind him for Perfectionism. The guard also provides items for The Oathbound quest.
Military Camp and Quarry
| Pickup | Where to search |
|---|---|
| Dominatus | In the tent beside the hill through the camp with explosive barrels. |
| Surplus | Burn the gold growth beyond the camp, enter the cave, clear its glowing weak point and follow the swing route up to the cliff chest. |
| Potent Concoction | From Quarry’s wooden platforms, drop to the ledge and find the burnable growth opposite the shortcut ladder. The chest is beyond it. |
| Marksman’s Bane | After the first zipline near the top, go left, break the crates and follow the revealed path toward the tower chest. |
At the camp, inspect the tent before continuing up the hill. Near the zipline, the tower route branches away from the uphill main path, so check the platform edge behind the crates.
The Other Side and the later return
Take the Emissary’s Seal from the desk inside the carriage near The Other Side to begin The Emissary. The poison beyond it requires a later return with Shield from the University.
Once Shield is available, clear the growth blocking the camp route, cross the poison under its protection and inspect the tent chest for Perfect Copy. Do not confuse that chest with Perfectionism near the earlier Eternal Guardsman: the two Ambers occupy different parts of Valley of Ashes.
